Living in Mission

Encompassing 170 square kilometers the District of Mission is the 6th largest district in British Columbia. It is known as a rural farming community and was once referred to as the ‘Home of the Big Red Strawberry’. Mission has an abundance of lakes, mountains, forests and floodplains with a traditional downtown core that was established in the late 19 th century.
Mission is situated 70 kilometers east of Vancouver with the West Coast Express train transporting commuters to downtown Vancouver within 75 minutes. Mission’s southern boundary is met by the Fraser River and in the north the district is close to the foot of Mount Robie Reid at the southern end of the Garabaldi Mountains. It is bounded on the west by Maple Ridge near the lower reaches of the Stave River, and two hydroelectric reservoirs, Stave and Hayward lakes. Mission reaches east to Chilliwack’s western border.
